Whether your organization is a brand new nonprofit or one that has been in existence for many years, your top priority is undoubtedly raising funds to provide services. Perhaps you are considering a major capital campaign for a new facility, wishing to contact more individuals to bolster your donor base, or going after a grant from a major foundation - or all of the above. Philanthropy is alive and well in the United States, even in these days of strained budgets. But with stiff competition from an ever-increasing number of nonprofit groups, how does your organization vie for those dollars?

When the voices of the organization (board, staff, volunteers, clients, donors) have come together with a clear picture of the strengths of the organization, then fundraising is much more likely to be successful.

Minigrant Application Deadline July 1, 2002: The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) offers minigrants of up to $4,000 to Michigan nonprofit organizations for locally developed, high-quality arts and cultural projects that increase public access to arts and culture. Nonprofit Enterprise at Work (NEW) administers this program for Washtenaw, Livingston and Monroe counties.
The upcoming application deadline of **July 1, 2002** is for projects whose START AND END DATES are between October 1, 2002 and September 30, 2003.
NEW will be offering FREE Grant Assistance workshops to help applicants prepare for the July 1 deadline:

board connecting program, serves nonprofit organizations by providing
valuable, easy-to-use resources for finding trained, motivated and diverse

Nonprofit CARES (Computer Assisted Risk Evaluation System) is available for you to use in the library. It is a computerized risk assessment tool that can help you better understand your nonprofit organization and more effectively manage the risks it faces. The assessment guides you through an analysis of your nonprofit's policies and practices and provides a detailed printed report with specific recommendations, customized for your nonprofit and its operating environment. Webmaster Assistance for Your Site: Is your organization looking for ongoing assistance with its Web site? If so, the right answer might be a volunteer Webmaster who can update the text contents of your Web pages. NEW's SBC Ameritech WebConnect program has started the process of matching qualified volunteers with organizations in need of basic Web site maintenance. Virus Vaccination Day - Organizations and Volunteers Wanted!:
Virus Vaccination Day is a FREE one-day community service event devoted
to helping Michigan nonprofits protect themselves against computer viruses.
Michigan Comnet, a project of the Southeastern Michigan Information Center
at United Way Community Services, is working in conjunction with NPower
Michigan to recruit interested agencies and volunteers to participate
in this special event. The Virus Vaccination Day will occur on Saturday,
June 1 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. For more information please visit Comnet's

The Michigan Association
for Evaluation brings together evaluation professionals in the private
and public sectors with funders and service providers who use evaluation.
MAE's annual conference is an opportunity to hear about current issues
in evaluation, learn helpful tools, and gain access to useful resources
